Use the exclamation point to show emphasis or surprise. Do not use the exclamation point in formal business writing.
Example:
I'm truly shocked by your behavior!
There are many times when I'm writing a letter and I misuse the exclamation point by using it incorrectly. I tend to put lots of exclamation points when it is most certainly unnecessary.
